Oyster Gardening Workshops

Oyster Gardening workshops are only for qualified individuals and require reservations in advance. If you are approved for a workshop, we will provide all necessary supplies, so just plan to arrive 15 minutes early for sign-in, then stay throughout the entirety of the two-hour workshop.  Oyster Gardening is a great activity to get the whole family involved with at home, but please note that gardening workshops are primarily directed toward adults…

HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR A WORKSHOP?

Only those who are qualified to be either an Oyster Gardener or Oyster Buddy may attend an Oyster Gardening workshop. The requirements for both designations are as follows:

Oyster Gardener

  • Has a dock on the  Indian River Lagoon in Brevard County. Community docks for homeowners associations and condos can also be eligible, but check out these special guidelines first.
  • Can commit one to two hours of time per week to cleaning and monitoring oyster habitats and entering findings into a database
  • Not planning to be out of town for extended periods of time (more than two weeks) over the next six to seven months
  • Can lift 30 lbs

Oyster Buddy

  • Able to temporarily fill in for traveling or sick Oyster Gardeners by committing one to two hours per week to maintaining and monitoring their habitats for them
  • Has access to a reliable means of transportation to Oyster Gardening sites
  • Can lift 30 lbs
