Mat-making workshops, hosted at various parks throughout Brevard County, are free and open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., or until materials are depleted. All ages are welcome, materials will be provided for you, and no reservation is required. During the workshop, you’ll be learning about our restoration projects and creating oyster mats by attaching oyster shells to squares of aquaculture mesh using zip ties. It usually takes between 15 and 20 minutes to make one oyster mat, and the oyster shells can be dusty, so try to wear clothing that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty. Work gloves are not required, but if you’d prefer to wear them, feel free to bring your own pair. Our upcoming public workshop schedule is as follows:
January 18 : Barrier Island Center
January 28 : David R Schechter Community Center
February 1 : Riverwalk Nature Center
February 8 : Erna Nixon Park
February 15 : Barrier Island Center
